Navigator GPS Workflow

Prepress software and services that help your work flow

Navigator GPS Workflow

Navigator GPS Workflows are efficient solutions for printers seeking a reliable RIP with the capability to control and preview jobs from multiple desktops on the network. Based on Harlequin RIP Server technology, Navigator Workflow is user-friendly, powerful, and compatible with hundreds of output devices.

Powered by the Navigator Harlequin RIP for precise native interpretation and rendering of PostScript and PDF files, Navigator Workflows are dependable, productive, and affordable.

The intuitive Navigator Client interface allows multiple operators to manage their work from any Windows or Macintosh workstation on the network, while the Navigator Workflow Server directs output production through up to five RIPs.

With drag-and-drop functionality alongside traditional job submission methods, the Navigator GPS workflow is remarkably simple to use. Navigator GPS is modular and expandable, offering a PDF option that includes PDF creation, preflight controls, and the capability to incorporate Certified PDF™.

Fully zoomable on-screen preview of actual high-resolution RIPed data at your workstation, enabling detailed job inspection before committing to plate making or other final output.

  • View individual separations
  • Utilise on-screen measuring tools
  • Adjust preview colour of spot inks
  • Pan and zoom using the navigator window

Zoom in to examine the high-detail screens or traps. In this example, we have zoomed into our trapping test and enabled the “Trap Black” function of the previewer. This allows us to see through the black layer and verify whether it is trapping, knocking out, or over-printing.

Hot Folders

All editions of Navigator Workflow support “hot folder” inputs, allowing files to be placed manually or automatically into a designated network folder for automatic collection and processing by Navigator Workflow through a predefined sequence of steps. Available as standard with Navigator Elite, or as an option for other editions, are powerful scriptable hot folders, enabling developers and power users to perform extensive pre-processing of files.

Ink Remapping

Ink Remapping addresses the common issue of spot colours being used where four-colour printing is needed or different names being used for the same colour within a job. For instance, a logo in Illustrator might be created in Rubine Red, while text is added in a colour named “My Red.” Ink Remapping resolves these inconsistencies seamlessly.

Preflighting

Printers often receive problematic files from external sources, including “print-ready” PDFs from professional designers and files from casual users in programs like Publisher, Word, or PowerPoint. These can be nearly unprintable without editing. Preflighting ensures these issues are detected and resolved before printing.

Imposition

Navigator Workflow’s Imposition integrator works with almost any imposition package. The Imposition module allows for direct imposition of files at your desktop within the workflow, storing single pages and completed impositions in the Navigator Client for easy further processing.

Proofing

Navigator Workflows cater to all proofing needs, including Content, Soft, Imposition, Quality Colour, or ROOM proofing. Available as options at all levels of Navigator Workflow, or standard with Navigator Elite, you can choose the proofing method that suits each task perfectly. The system supports a wide range of printers and proofers, from laser printers in the sales office to wide-format Epson, Canon, or HP inkjets in the studio.

Trapping

Trapping in Navigator Workflow is performed by the Navigator Harlequin RIP using the powerful TrapPro option. TrapPro applies user-defined rules to automatically generate traps between “kiss fit” colours in your jobs, preventing unsightly white gaps due to mis-registration during printing. TrapPro handles vector-to-vector traps, such as text-to-object or object-to-object, as well as object-to-image traps.

Screening

Navigator Workflows employ the Navigator Harlequin RIP, offering advanced screening options for excellent output quality. Users can easily select different screening sets of dot shape, screen frequency (line screen), angles, and more from the Navigator Workflow client. Navigator Workflows are available with Harlequin Precision Screening (HPS AM screens), Harlequin Dispersed Screening (HDS FM screens), and Harlequin Cross-modulated Screens (HXM Hybrid screens).

Output Devices

Navigator Workflows support a wide range of output devices, from desktop printers to film devices and various CtP systems. With over 250 output devices supported directly or through TIFF catchers, Prepress UK can output to almost any device in the market. More devices are being added continuously, so please contact us if your device is not listed.
