StudioRIP Power Edition

Prepress software and services that help your work flow

StudioRIP Power Edition

StudioRIP XF is the latest generation of a powerful yet affordable prepress workflow solution from Prepress UK, designed for CTP, Film, and InkJet output. It serves as an ideal replacement for outdated workflow systems that struggle to process modern PDF files, where the original manufacturer’s upgrade options are cost-prohibitive.

Renowned for its exceptional screening quality, user-friendly interface, high speed, and extensive features at a fraction of the cost of competitive systems, StudioRIP XF is highly flexible and can be configured to meet your specific needs. With StudioRIP XF, every prepress task can be accomplished within a single user interface, including interpretation, screening, rendering, trapping, imposition, and proofing.

Imposition

StudioRIP offers a versatile imposition system featuring built-in templates and pagination schemes for saddle-stitch, perfect bound, n-up, and step-and-repeat work. It also provides fully customisable pagination and manual editing options to achieve any desired result.

  • Imposition Style Library: StudioRIP includes a built-in library of commonly used imposition styles, such as 2 × 2 book or saddle-stitched magazine impositions.
  • Custom Imposition Styles: Users can define and save custom imposition styles for future use.
  • Flexibility: The imposition styles allow users to define schemes on a page-by-page basis if the built-in techniques are unsuitable for the required scheme.
  • Manual Imposition: Pages and pre-press marks can be manually placed, or automatic impositions can be manually modified.
  • Pre-Press Marks: The built-in library includes user-definable marks for placing any colour bar, text mark, or any element from a PDF, EPS, or PS file.
  • Bleed: For PDF files, bleed is correctly recognised and used in imposition from any page box. Postscript files can be expanded and cropped for bleed generation, and files with incorrect bleed can be modified directly in the StudioRIP client.
  • One Interface: Imposition is performed within the same StudioRIP environment, using the same interface, preview system, and job management controls.
  • Pixel-Level Control: Impositions can be examined down to the pixel level, including placement on the media (plate or film).

Preview

StudioRIP XF offers a fully zoomable post-RIP preview equipped with measurement tools and an on-screen dot meter, providing unparalleled softproofing for pages, separations, impositions, and plates.

  • Verify screens, traps, and overprints of the actual plate data to ensure 100% confidence that what you see is what you will get on plate.
  • Measure screen angles of any separation.
  • The on-screen dot meter displays not only the requested tint value in the file but also the adjusted tint value, accounting for plate linearisation, press calibration, and tone curve adjustments.

Screening

StudioRIP’s SGSS technology provides both hybrid and supercell AM screening as standard, with second-order FM screening available as an option. It features a wide range of adjustable parameters, including powerful flexo-optimised features, all at a fraction of the cost of competing systems.

Hybrid screening allows you to achieve previously unattainable high line screens (LPI) by transitioning from conventional AM screens in the mid-tones to FM screens in the highlights and shadows. This enables the retention of a 2-98% dot on press, even with screen rulings well above 200 LPI.

StudioRIP Hybrid Screening – Transitioning to FM in the Shadows keeps the dots open on press.
StudioRIP Hybrid Screening – Transitioning to FM in the Highlights ensures light tints stay visible on press.
  • 4096 Shades of Grey: Achieve 4096 shades of grey even on line screen and resolution combinations such as 150 LPI at 1200 DPI.
  • Pattern Filtering: SGSS filters out potential patterns caused by the dot gain of the imagesetter/CTP.
  • Low-Pass Filtering: A low-pass filtering system smooths dot-gain spikes, ensuring perfectly linear behaviour after calibration.
  • CMK Moiré Prevention: With StudioRIP, CMK moiré is impossible. SGSS ensures perfect rosette consistency even on large format, high-resolution, and special angles.
  • Hybrid AM/FM Screening: Standard powerful hybrid AM/FM screening allows users to set up the minimum and maximum printable dot size, maintaining highlights and shadows even at very high line screens.
  • Flexography Highlight Reproduction: Addressing the key challenge in flexography, SGSS flexo options provide extra smooth hybrid screens for flexography, delivering pattern-free highlights with good colour depth, crucial for high-end flexo print. Advanced features make printing easier and of higher quality.
  • Stochastic Screening Option: SGSS offers a second-order stochastic screening option.

Trapping

StudioRIP XF incorporates automatic trapping, examining all kiss-fit separations during processing to determine the lighter and darker colours. It then spreads the lighter colour according to your precise specifications, correcting for any mis-registration on press. This feature supports object-to-object trapping, object-to-image trapping, and even internal image trapping.

  • Narrowed Traps: In situations where the full width of the trap does not fit into the available spread area, StudioRIP will automatically reduce the trapping.
  • Sliding Traps: When colour varies continuously across a vignette, the trap might shift suddenly from one side of the boundary to the other. StudioRIP prevents this using the sliding trap technique.
  • Anamorphic Traps: Mis-registration in the X and Y directions during printing might differ. StudioRIP compensates for this by applying different trapping in the X and Y directions.
  • Feathered Traps: Feathered traps provide a more visually appealing, blurred look compared to traditional sharp traps.
  • Colour Reduction: The visual impact of the trap can be minimised by reducing its density to match the original density.
  • Density Limitation: This feature selectively reduces the density of traps that exceed a certain limit relative to the original density.
  • High-Quality Shapes: StudioRIP ensures excellent behaviour in junctions, near third colours, and with slightly different colours.

Proofing

StudioRIP offers three types of proofing to meet diverse requirements, capable of producing ISO-12647/FOGRA approved proofs. It includes built-in tools for calibration, ICC profile creation, and verification to ensure your proofer meets the intended colour standard.

StudioRIP Digital Proofing System offers three types of proofing to meet all needs:

  • Contone Proofing: Provides extremely accurate colour matching, with a typical average ΔE of 0.7.
  • Halftone Proofing: Reproduces the look and feel of halftoned output with similar accuracy.
  • Raster (ROOM) Proofing: Ensures dot-for-dot halftone reproduction with excellent colour matching, guaranteeing 100% data integrity by making proofs directly from high-resolution plate separations.
